AirPods finally get update with wireless charging, Siri and more talk time

Apple introduced its second-generation AirPods
With some new and improved features. The second generation of AirPods have finally arrived.
Following a hardware update cycle that saw new iPads on Monday and refreshed iMacs on Tuesday, Apple released the long-awaited update to AirPods Wednesday.

Keeping the same name and largely same design as the original AirPods first released in 2016, the new earbuds start at $199 and come with a new wireless charging case, the ability to wirelessly summon Siri and Apple's new H1 chip which promises to add an extra hour of talk time.

The wireless charging case, which has a little light on the front to indicate when it is charging, uses the same Qi-standard found on recent iPhones and Android devices.

Still offered only in white, the new earbuds are available to order today and will hit stores next week. Those interested can also engrave the case for free, similar to old iPods.
Those who already have AirPods and want to add the wireless charging case will be able to do so for $79. Those who don't want the wireless charging case will still be able to buy AirPods for $159.

Apple's week of hardware comes on the eve of the company's big event on Monday where it is expected to unveil its new streaming video and subscription news service. By rolling out the updates this week, Apple is seemingly determined to keep the March 25 focused entirely on the services.
